WebJan 16, 2008 · My Tundra sometimes (more and more frequently as of late) has not been shifting into 6th and sometimes 5th when in auto mode. In order to get it to shift, I have to pull the shifter into "S" mode and quickly put it back in to Drive, and then it works properly. As soon as your temp hits 140, it will shift. This is all programmed in the ECU. If you really think it is messed up I would check your coolant temp sensor. Ran codes and they were numerous with the first one being to change the battery. Did so and all codes cleared and tranny is now shifting perfectly. Shop first tried to tell me I needed $7500 transmission.
