SpletPCP mainly develops in patients whose CD4 cell count is <200 cells·mL −1. The median CD4 count is 20 cells per mm 3, and the plasma viral load of HIV is usually >10,000 copies·mL −1 [ 14 ]. HIV-infected persons with PCP generally have a more sub-acute course and longer duration of symptoms than other immunocompromised patients.
