Examples of secondary messengers
WebSecond messengers are intracellular signaling molecules. Epinephrine is a hormone that is released into the bloodstream and is thus never inside the cell. cAMP, Ca 2+ and IP3 are all examples of second messengers. They respond to primary messengers—which are often hormones—by amplifying their effects and/or turning on downstream effectors.

WebFor example, when epinephrine binds to beta-adrenergic receptors in cell membranes, G-protein activation stimulates cAMP synthesis by adenylyl cyclase. The newly … WebSome of the important second messengers in the nervous system are cAMP, cyclic guanosine monophosphate (cGMP), diacylglycerol (DAG), inositol trisphosphate (IP3 ), …

The second messenger activates an intercellular process. 15.3A: Direct Gene Activation and the Second-Messenger System is shared under a CC BY-SA license … WebNeurons use many different second messengers as intracellular signals. These messengers differ in the mechanism by which they are produced and removed, as well as their downstream targets and effects (Figure 8.7A). This section summarizes the attributes of some of the principal second messengers.Figure 8.7Neuronal second messengers. …
WebOther examples of second messengers include NO, IP3, and DAG. The figure below shows an example of the production of second messengers. The figure depicts a system where the signal causes a G-protein to become active, stimulating the membrane enzyme phospholipase C.
